CEITEC BUT
Bio
"I am a physical chemist by training, but over the past fifteen years, my work has gradually shifted into biomedicine, where I still apply my knowledge from physical chemistry. I spent seven years studying in Austria, in Linz, where I also completed my PhD. I was then offered a position to establish my own research group in Sweden, where I spent five years focusing primarily on developing new technologies for neuromodulation. After five years in Sweden, an exciting offer came to move my research group to CEITEC BUT in Brno, and I immediately felt at home here."
What did Brno give you?
"It’s a city that isn’t too big, but it has a large number of universities, scientific institutes, and teaching hospitals, and you can do almost everything in one place. When we need to conduct an experiment or use a special device, we know someone who has it or can arrange it. This is a huge added value. I haven’t been here very long, but even so, I feel like I’m part of the local network."
3 things you love about Brno?
"Many people mention that Brno isn’t too big and that nature is right on the doorstep, and I must agree with that. The city itself is very green, and you can easily go for a trip outside the city. I’m not a fan of big cities, even though I’m from Warsaw and grew up in an apartment block. That’s why I like Brno. I also appreciate the cultural offerings here – we often attend concerts and theater performances."
