MICROSCOPY PLATFORM

A community of companies, researchers, and educational institutions are developing the field of electron microscopy in cooperation with support from the governments of Brno and the South Moravian Region.

Main activities:

  • Community building – encouraging sharing, attracting new talent, learning and development within the ecosystem.

  • Supply Chain Development – Supporting the growth in the region's number and competency of microscopy suppliers.

  • Promotion and PR – raising of awareness (electron) microscopy in the region and worldwide.
  • Commercialisation support – transfer of research results into practice, support for establishing spin-off companies.

MORE ORGANIZATIONS TO FOLLOW

Czech National Semiconductor Cluster

Established in Brno in 2022, the cluster offers access to connect with experts and engage with the Czech semiconductor value chain, which consists of top Czech academic institutions, leading companies and their supply chain, startups and regional innovation centres.

Czechoslovak Microscopical Society

A professional, civic association brings together experts who use a wide range of microscopic methods, ranging from optical, confocal, electron and tip microscopy.

TOP EVENT IN BRNO

Days of electron microscopy

Every year, manufacturers of electron microscopes and accessories, research centres, schools and other organisations open their doors in Brno to give the public a glimpse into otherwise inaccessible laboratories and to learn about the curiosities of the microworld or what it is like to work in this field.

Brno region has emerged as one of the leading European innovation hubs
The Brno region, The South Moravian Region (SMR) (Czech Republic, European Union) has emerged as one of the leading European innovation hubs, with its Regional Innovation Index (RII) jumping from 87.3 to 101% of EU average between 2016 and 2023, an improvement of 22.3%. A global leader in electron microscopy, with one-third of the world's electron microscopes coming from Brno, Brno region excels also in the semiconductor, space, cybersecurity, and game development sectors. Leading the Czech Republic in knowledge intensity and high-tech employment, Brno region matches Europe's top regions. Brno's high quality of life and ranking as a leading student city highlight its role as a center of innovation and growth. It stems from the data report on research, innovation, and business in South Moravia, published by the innovation agency JIC.

Jan Neuman: Only together can we make Brno the world center of electron microscopy
Every third electron microscope in the world is made in Brno. But what makes the South Moravian metropolis the mecca of the field is the whole ecosystem of collaborating organizations and people. How are they interconnected? And what do they do to nurture and attract new talent and top experts? Jan Neuman, CEO of NenoVision and initiator of the Regional Microscopy Platform, answered questions about electron microscopy's past and future in #brnoregion.

Electron microscopy in action: Brno teams are developing energy-efficient chips
Exploring new materials for chip production and enabling their analysis directly in the production environment – these are the tasks of two scientific teams from #brnoregion – from Thermo Fisher Scientific and Brno University of Technology. Electron microscopes play a key role in their efforts. Thanks to them, as part of the three-year European ALL2GaN project, we can look forward to a solution that has enormous potential to save energy and thus mitigate the climate crisis by reducing CO2 emissions. Indeed, the gallium nitride chips being developed will be used in a wide range of applications including telecommunications and e-mobility.
