Bio
I am a Senior Group Leader at The International Clinical Research Center (ICRC) in Brno, Czech Republic since 2023, and previously a Principal Investigator at the Institut de Neurosciences des Systèmes (INS), a part of Inserm at Aix-Marseille Université (AMU), France. I am a recipient of the ERC Starting Grant 2016, two ERC Proof-of-Concept Grants in 2020 and 2022, and an ERC Consolidator Grant 2023. My work uses novel technology-based therapies and neuroprosthetics in the treatment of epilepsy. Generally, my research can be classified as technology-based, focused on in vivo applications for numerous new electronic devices and brain stimulation methods in pathophysiological neuronal networks related to epilepsy.
What did Brno give you?
Brno has historically been a focal point for science, technology, and innovation. I have chosen to move my research to Brno, for several reasons: Brno is home to multiple universities and technical and reserach institutes. The most notable among these is Masaryk University, which has a rich history in research and innovation. Brno has a vibrant start-up culture and innovation ecosystem and offers easy access to other European cities and research hubs. This makes collaboration with other institutions, attending conferences, or obtaining specific resources more convenient. The Czech Republic has been proactive in supporting scientific research through various national and EU grants. Being in Brno, a recognized hub for research, often makes access to these funds more straightforward. Beyond the scientific reasons, Brno provides a high quality of life, rich cultural experiences, and a safe environment. A content and motivated researcher is often a more productive one.
3 things you love about Brno?
Brno provides an environment where innovation thrives, coupled with resources and opportunities for researchers to push the boundaries of their fields. For me, focusing on technology-based therapies and neuroprosthetics in epilepsy treatment, Brno offers the ideal mix of academic, technological, and industrial environments to further my groundbreaking research.
