Since 2013, I have been leading the Structural Virology group at CEITEC, Masaryk University, where I have also become the director on July 1, 2023. I also teach courses in Structural Virology, Methods in Structural Biology and "Publish or perish" - a course on writing scientific publications, and I am also involved in science popularization.
What did Brno give you?
My wife and I moved to Brno from West Lafayette, Indiana in 2013. At that time CEITEC, as the only research institution in the Czech Republic, was planning to purchase equipment for cryo-electron microscopy. So it was an obvious choice for the establishment of the Structural Virology group. At the same time, my wife had the opportunity to get a position at the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University.
3 things you love about Brno?
I like living in Brno. We are raising two sons and I am glad that Brno is safe and has a good range of schools and public transport. It is important for my research career that Brno has a relatively large international community and services that cater to it. This allows me to employ post-docs and PhD students from all over the world.
