Brno region emerged as a standout microscopy hub at the European Microscopy Congress 2024 (EMC 2024) in Copenhagen, marking an unprecedented achievement with a record number of local companies, researchers, and institutions represented. Under the unified banner of the Brnoregion Microscopy platform, nearly 100 scientists, innovators, and technology experts showcased the region's cutting-edge developments in microscopy and imaging technologies.
Brno region steals the spotlight at the EMC2024
This year, thanks to the support of the City of Brno, the regional platform Brnoregion Microscopy participated in the congress as a new entity. This consortium of companies, universities, and research institutions in the field of microscopy collaborates not only in research, development, and production of microscopes but also in supporting talent from the Czech Republic and abroad.

Conference visitors had the opportunity to visit the joint Brnoregion Microscopy exhibition, participate in a quiz with unique prizes related to microscopy, or attend a presentation on the platform to learn more about Brno's position in the world of microscopy.

The joint exhibition was created as part of the International Trade Center project at the Regional Chamber of Commerce of Brno (co-financed by the City of Brno). This enabled the participation of small companies and startups, for whom presenting at such a prestigious congress is a great opportunity: NenoVision, Vivanto Solutions, DI Industrial, Advascope, IQS Nano or SciCanvas.

Recognition for Brno region scientists

EMC 2024 Copenhagen

Dr. Vladislav Krzyžánek, chairman of the Czechoslovak Microscopy Society and a group leader at the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences, was elected president of the European Microscopy Society during the congress. This marks the first time a representative from Central Europe has been elected to this important position within an organization that brings together 6,000 experts in microscopy.

Tomáš Čižmár EMS Award 2024

Another success for Brno's participation in EMC 2024 was the recognition of Professor Tomáš Čižmár, who received the prestigious European Microscopy Award. This renowned scientist from the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno was honored for his pioneering work in deep tissue endomicroscopy in vivo, which has a significant impact on medical imaging and research in neuroscience.

Nano World: High-tech Microscopes from the Brno Region
NASA, Harvard, Apple, the National Gallery in Washington, Nvidia – they may not seem connected, but they share one thing: Brno. More precisely: instruments made in Brno. And more specifically, instruments they rely on every day. And this only confirms a fact that’s still rarely highlighted: the region has become a global hub for electron microscopy.
