Electron microscopy in action: Brno teams are developing energy-efficient chips
Exploring new materials for chip production and enabling their analysis directly in the production environment – these are the tasks of two scientific teams from #brnoregion – from Thermo Fisher Scientific and Brno University of Technology. Electron microscopes play a key role in their efforts. Thanks to them, as part of the three-year European ALL2GaN project, we can look forward to a solution that has enormous potential to save energy and thus mitigate the climate crisis by reducing CO2 emissions. Indeed, the gallium nitride chips being developed will be used in a wide range of applications including telecommunications and e-mobility.

The latest data show that #brnoregion is among the European leaders in terms of innovation support
According to the latest data, a total of €856 million went into research and development in the South Moravian Region. This is 3.2% of the regional GDP, which means the highest share of the whole Czech Republic. Such support for innovation is contributed to not only by universities and public research institutions, but above all by companies that focus on research and development. This results from the 2023 Data report on science, research, innovation and entrepreneurship in South Moravia.

3 Nobel prize laureates will keynote the Mendel Genetics Conference in July
The multidisciplinary genetics conference is held in Brno, Czech Republic, on 20–23 July 2022 to commemorate both the International DNA Day and the 200th anniversary of the birth of G. J. Mendel, the father of modern genetics. Among the keynote speakers will be three Nobel Prize laureates.

Vojtěch Kundrát: the art of activist chemistry
Young chemist Vojtěch Kundrát has already accomplished as much as some do in their entire lives. As a high-school student, he started working with top research groups at universities in Prague as well as Brno. He’s patented several inventions, contributed to the development of a sunscreen oil for albinos in Ghana, and dozens of people in Tanzania now have access to drinking water thanks to his invention. On top of all this, he decided to study art at the Faculty of Fine Arts at BUT.
